Trash Twist

Mixed ages, with advanced reading skills required by the game master.

Starting with a mat covered in 24 Fun Fact Cards, players spin a wheel and follow the directions to place their hands and feet on the colored circles. Each player is asked to pick up the card where they land and read the Fun Fact Card out loud (or the game master reads the facts). The colors of the circles and the fun facts on them correspond the categories of waste that goes in a landfill (red), items that should be recycled (blue), waste that can be composted (green), or weird waste like electronics and large items (yellow). The goal of the game is to teach people about these categories and the items that fall within them. This game was created by high school Trash Academy Leaders in collaboration with artist Margaret Kearney and environmental educator Ciara Williams.
